Fun leadership moments are easy. The real test comes when something uncomfortable needs to be said.
Janelle and Rebekah talk about the tough conversations that come with leading in a med spa, from hygiene and dress code issues to presentation, behavior, communication gaps, feedback, and moments where someone feels hurt or misunderstood. Some of these conversations are awkward because they are personal. Others are hard because they involve accountability, blind spots, or team dynamics that cannot be ignored.
They point out that the way a leader handles these moments matters as much as the message itself. A conversation about someone’s presentation, tone, or behavior should not feel robotic or humiliating. It should feel honest, thoughtful, and human. Before jumping to conclusions, strong leaders need to understand what may be happening beneath the surface. Is this a one-time issue? Is there something going on in that person’s life? Is this a pattern? Is the conversation really about one employee, or is it about protecting the whole team?
Rebekah also shares examples of hard feedback she received and why she respects the people who were willing to bring it directly to her. Those moments became stronger because the communication was brave, direct, and rooted in trust instead of gossip.
Tough conversations are never the fun part of leadership, but they are often where the most growth happens.
